Lenten Journaling in Community- #1

Worship into the Week- My Beloved Son

 Worship into the Week-
Matthew 17: 1-13
The Transfiguration

Time for the Glory of Jesus to be revealed.
It would take a HIGH place to encompass this-
 the height of His ministry.
My personal connection for this is Mt. Hermon-
 the highest mountain in Israel.
(the local tradition in Mt. Tabor)
The proximity of Mt. Hermon
to the previous story in Caesarea Philippi-
makes sense.
It would take a few days to travel
 to the top from there.
The disciples are trying to put all of this together.
Probably fits into their
"wildest trips" category for a Jewish man-
Moses, Elijah and Jesus- together.
No wonder they fell to the ground.
 Jesus reached out and said-
"Rise and have no fear."
Just as He does for us every day.
His Glory transcends anything
that is an obstacle in your life- dear child.
And the voice of the heavenly Father
 breaks forth from the heavens.
"This is my Beloved Son,
with whom I am well-pleased;
listen to Him."
We heard these words
at the baptism of Jesus.
 (Matthew 3:17)
The Father's affirmation
of the divine nature of His son.
Our profession of faith in Jesus Christ
 begins our transformational journey.
May this be a blessing as we contemplate
our sanctified state in heaven someday.
                                                                                                                                                      1-2020 photo- John Denninger
This is a photo of Mount Hermon
on our latest trip to Israel.
This is from the base of the Ski area-
it shows how the clouds settle down
and you can't even see the top of the mountain.

Lenten Journaling in Community- #1

I have debated whether  to share the journey of Lent 2020. Seems like so much has been  shifted in our world right now. But, I am learning that in these very fragile days,  it is precisely what these practices  have offered in community-  that have become reassurance and "saving grace." So I will go ahead and share the Visual Journey  of processing with the book-When From Death I'm Free. This was the joint effort of author Justin Rossow  and Visual Faith Coach Valerie Matyas. She rounded up talented artists  to add to the visual resources
that tie together hymn studies  of both traditional hymns  and contemporary hymns by Kip Fox.
The book incorporates Visual Faith prayer practices
 that we have developed
and teach in our learning communities. It is a 12 week study and I will share the journey  in the order that we are doing them in community,  using the order of the pages in the book.
